About sea glass
Sea glass is made when ordinary glass has spent a long period of time in a body of water where it has been tossed around in the waves. Sea glass is the name given to glass which has been found on salt water shorelines so it could have crossed oceans, seas & sea lochs on its journey. Beach glass is the name given to “sea glass” found on fresh water beaches so it has likely been on a much shorter adventure!
As the glass is tossed around in the waves & washed up against stone & sand shorelines, the sharp edges of the glass become rounded. Time exposed to these processes also causes the glass to take on a frosted appearance & can also impact the colour of the glass. Each and every piece of sea glass is beautiful and unique having been on its own beautiful and unique journey. At Bespoke by Aileen our jewellery is designed to showcase the natural beauty of each piece of glass, embracing what some may consider to be “imperfections”. Just like people, sea glass is never “perfect” - we are all perfectly imperfect in our own perfect way.
The sea glass (& occasionally beach glass) we use at Bespoke by Aileen is collected by hand & selected for key attributes depending on the piece of jewellery being created. Variations in size, depth, shape, level of “frost”, colour & shade can all dramatically change the appearance of a piece. Our jewellery designer, Aileen has many years experience finding the ideal piece of sea glass for a project & creating jewellery that showcases the sea glass’s beauty with elegant & eye catching results.
